
Dima Hasao, Assam: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dima Hasao organized an awareness programme on the balanced use of fertilizers at Miyungkro village under Harangajao block, with the active participation of 30 farmers and farm women.
The programme highlighted the growing concerns associated with excessive use of chemical fertilizers, including soil contamination, depletion of beneficial microbial populations, and adverse impacts on human and environmental health. It was also pointed out that India largely depends on imports for fertilizer raw materials, leading to economic outflow.
Addressing the gathering, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, Dr. Ardhendu Chakraborty, emphasized the importance of adopting green manuring practices to improve soil fertility naturally. He encouraged farmers to integrate eco-friendly approaches for sustainable agriculture.
Shri Baosring Nunisa, SMS (Soil Science), elaborated on the significance of soil test-based fertilizer application for efficient nutrient management. He also stressed the promotion of vermicomposting as a sustainable alternative to chemical inputs.
The programme aimed to sensitize farmers towards reducing chemical fertilizer use and adopting organic manures to ensure long-term soil health and environmental sustainability.
