A Training Programme on “Food Safety and Food Adulteration” along with a Method Demonstration on Simple Household Food Adulteration Detection Techniques was successfully organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dima Hasao at N. Leikul Village of Jatinga Valley, Dima Hasao district on 15th July, 2026.

The programme was led by Mrs. Darshana Chetia (Subject Matter Specialist – Home Science), who warmly welcomed the participants and highlighted the objective of the training, emphasizing the importance of food safety in ensuring the health and well-being of every family. As women play a vital role in food preparation and household nutrition, the programme primarily targeted homemakers to enhance their awareness and capacity to identify adulterated food products using simple techniques at home. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with a total of 44 participants actively attending the programme.
During the technical session, Mrs. Chetia delivered a lecture on Food Safety in India, explaining the concept of safe food, the significance of maintaining food hygiene, and the importance of food safety in everyday life. She also discussed the health risks associated with consuming adulterated food and encouraged participants to adopt safe food handling and purchasing practices at the household level.
Following the lecture, a method demonstration was conducted on easy, home-based techniques for detecting adulteration in commonly consumed food items. The demonstration included simple tests for cumin, clove, salt, turmeric powder, apple, egg, black pepper, cardamom, milk, tea, sugar, red chili powder, and other household food products. Participants actively engaged in the demonstrations and learned practical methods to identify common adulterants using readily available materials.
