JAMMU: A three-day sensitization-cum-training programme for members of the Chowki Choura Dairy Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) successfully concluded today at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jammu, with a focus on strengthening the financial sustainability and self-reliance of dairy farmers. The programme, held from September 14 to 16, 2026, was organized under the visionary leadership of Prof. B. N. Tripathi, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, and in the gracious presence of Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu. The programme was financially supported by SHARDA, functioning as the Cluster Based Business Organization (CBBO).

The primary objective of the training was to equip members of the Chowki Choura Dairy FPO with practical knowledge and skills for establishing and managing a robust self-financing system, thereby reducing dependence on external sources of credit and strengthening the economic foundation of the FPO.
Special emphasis was also given to proper bookkeeping, transparent financial governance, accountability, profit management and strategic reinvestment in dairy-related infrastructure and activities. Representatives of SHARDA-CBBO highlighted how a well-managed self-financing mechanism can enable FPO members to strengthen their businesses, expand dairy operations, improve market linkages and obtain better returns for their produce.

Scientists and experts from KVK Jammu complemented the financial sessions with technical guidance on modern dairy farming and management practices, enabling farmers to link improved production practices with sound financial planning.
The valedictory session featured an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participating farmers actively discussed the practical challenges and opportunities associated with implementing the self-financing model. The farmers expressed their willingness and confidence to adopt the financial management modules and work collectively towards making the FPO more economically sustainable.
